2 drug peddlers held in Srinagar: Police | KNO

Srinagar, Dec 04 (KNO): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police on Wednesday said to have arrested two drug peddlers in Srinagar and recovered contraband substances from their possession. A police party of Police Station MR Gunj during naka checking at Syed Mansoor Bridge Zaldagar intercepted a vehicle (Venue) bearing registration number JK01AX-7639, who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). During the search, 11 grams of Brown Sugar like substance concealed in a polythene bag was recovered from the Dashboard of the said vehicle. The accused identified as Rakib Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Salam Dar resident of Rajouri Kadal Srinagar has been arrested on the spot, police said. Accordingly, the statement reads that a case under FIR number 51/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station MR Gunj and further investigation has been initiated. Moreover, during the course of the investigation of a case FIR number 134/2024 under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act of Police Station Safakadal, a police party of Police Post Noorbagh after unearthing of forward and backward linkages related to the previously arrested accused, another notorious drug peddler has been arrested. He has been identified as Mohd Irfan Sheikh son of Mohd Ashraf Sheikh resident of Pamposh Colony, Noorbagh. 2.51 grams of Heroin has been recovered from his possession. Investigation is going on to establish further connections, police said. Meanwhile, police urged people to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society.
